Hill is officially active, while Waddle is inactive for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. There was concern that the Dolphins would be without both of their star receivers in their final home game of the season; however, Hill will play on Sunday.
Hill was originally listed as questionable with a wrist injury. He was limited in practice on Friday, but has played through the injury all season. There's a possibility he will undergo surgery after the season ends.
Waddle is still dealing with a knee injury that forced him to exit the Dolphins' loss to the Houston Texans last week. Waddle missed all three practices this week, signaling his game status was likely going to be inactive.
Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke about the arrival of the 49ers in Miami ahead of Sunday's matchup.
"When you're a good team especially for as long as the San Francisco 49ers have been good, there's not one team that lines up on Sunday taking them lightly," McDaniel said via the team transcript. "It's a litmus test of sorts for every team that plays. I know one thing about the San Francisco 49ers, having worked there for five years and knowing the coaching staff and a good amount of the core players there, is they are a very, very prideful team in playing good football ... I think they're certainly frustrated as we are. It's been a trying year, but in no way, shape or form do I expect anything but their best."
McDaniel worked with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan from 2006-2008 and 2011-2021. McDaniel is a former offensive coordinator of the 49ers in 2021 and helped the team reach the NFC Championship that season.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shared the challenges of facing the 49ers defense in the Dolphins' final home game of the year.
"They have a lot of good guys on their team – a lot of playmakers, a lot of guys that you can see they've played in the league for some time," Tagovailoa said. "So I think it's going to be a tough challenge for us going against those guys with Fred (Warner) leading the charge. In my opinion probably one of the best linebackers that I've gotten to play against when we played them in 2022. I've got a lot of respect for him and got a lot of respect for those guys on that side."
