The Miami Dolphins could be getting a significant reinforcement back for their Week 8 matchup.
According to FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz, the plan is for Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to return to practice this week and ultimately play against the Arizona Cardinals next week.
Tagovailoa remains in concussion protocol after suffering yet another scary one in his short NFL career. The concussion he suffered in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills has kept him out for four games after this Sunday.
Earlier in the week, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that he expects Tagovailoa to continue to play in the 2024 season.
"It is exciting that I do believe he'll play football this year," McDaniel said on Monday. "I never went down that rabbit hole of if he would or wouldn't, just because I've learned through circumstance how that's the wrong question to be asking. The right questions are completely, 100 percent toward the human being and the player as a result."
Tagovailoa was placed on the injured reserve due to the concussion, and Sunday would be his fourth game minimum that he would need to miss. Nonetheless, the Dolphins feel confident that Tagovailoa would be ready to roll for next week if all goes well in practice this upcoming week.
Not only do the Dolphins feel confident, but so does Tagovailoa, who has been spotted visiting with neurologists in Pittsburgh. Doctors seemingly have not told him anything strong enough to change his mind about wanting to continue playing the game of football.
Tagovailoa has visited with old doctors and new ones about his current concussion. He did his best to gather as much information as he could, and all signs point to Tagovailoa being back on the gridiron sooner rather than later.
Tagovailoa has had major trouble keeping his noggin' in place since entering the league in 2020. In his five NFL seasons and prior to the one this season, he was diagnosed with two concussions in the 2022 season. He also sustained a third hit to the head that led to the NFL altering its policy on how concussions are reported.
Tagovailoa has been missed dearly in the Dolphins offense which is designed to make things easier for others on offense because of the Southpaw's play style. As things stand, the Dolphins sit at 2-3 and are coming off a much-needed Week 6 bye.
Miami has been decimated with injuries outside of Tagovailoa, but the hope is that their fortunes change once their QB1 is back on the gridiron.
