Since the announcement of Emily Henry‘s film adaptation of her book Funny Story, fans have been buzzing about which actors should play Miles and Daphne. One name that keeps popping up for the role of Miles is Dylan O’Brien. Now, the Maze Runner star is addressing the rumors about his casting in the upcoming rom-com!
“I’m a fan of Emily Henry’s. I’ve had friends who’ve turned me on to her books, and I know a lot of them are now just beginning to get brought to the screen,” he shared during an episode of the “Silence on Set” podcast in November 2024. “[Starring in *Funny Story*] is certainly not a no for me. I love the rom-com space; I’ve always wanted to do a rom-com, and I feel like we’re finally entering a little bit of a Renaissance with that… [But] I have no emails. Unless I’ve missed one.”
Emily’s novels are currently making the leap from page to screen, with five of her books being adapted into films! Among them, Funny Story is particularly exciting for fans because it’s the only adaptation where Emily will be penning the script.
Teaming up with Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company, the author first revealed the book would be getting the movie treatment in July 2024, only three months after Funny Story was first released!
“I have a draft of a script, and as soon as I finish this letter to you, I’m diving back into it,” she wrote in her newsletter, sharing a selfie with the Funny Story script. “Because we’re all chomping at the bit to get this made.”
Emily has previously shared her casting preferences with Us Weekly, noting that she thinks Logan Lerman would be a perfect fit for Miles and Camila Morrone for Daphne. She also showed support for Glen Powell as Peter, Daphne’s ex-boyfriend. “Before you even said that, it popped into my head,” Emily remarked. “That either means I’m psychic or we’re really onto something that feels right.”
Her dream cast for the film also includes Meghann Fahy, Rain Spencer, Sydney Chandler, Hilary Duff, Jenna Fischer, Jennifer Coolidge and Dennis Quaid.
