Shortbread can very well be enjoyed plain or enhanced with various flavours, such as vanilla, chocolate, or nuts, making it suitable for different preferences.
But for those who enjoy simplicity, one easy recipe could come in handy, as it makes a batch of this classic treat using just three ingredients.

One cup butter, softened
Half cup superfine sugar

Method
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a nine inch square baking pan with foil, allowing some overhang on each side.
In a bowl, combine the butter and sugar with a spoon until the mixture resembles a sandy texture. Gradually incorporate the flour, then knead the dough a few times until it’s crumbly rather than smooth.
Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan and poke it all over with a fork. Place the pan in the oven and bake until set, approximately 45 minutes.
While still warm, score the surface with a knife. Once cooled, lift the cookies out using the foil and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack. When fully cooled, break them apart along the scored lines.
