The first two winners of Elon Musk's prize for signing his online petition were announced by the Tesla CEO over the weekend.
Musk created the petition as part of America PAC, a political action group he created to support former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The SpaceX CEO has said he is offering $1 million daily to a randomly selected registered voter who signs the petition supporting the First and Second Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
"The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I am pledging my support for the First and Second Amendments," the petition reads.
Musk's effort to gather a million signatures ahead of the election to boost Trump's presidential campaign is under scrutiny for potential legal concerns related to election laws.
Pennsylvania Governor Joe Shapiro described the billionaire's move as "deeply concerning". I think it's something that law enforcement could take a look at," he said.
Newsweek reached out to Governor Shapiro on Monday via email outside of normal working hours for further comment.
Amid the controversy surrounding the announcement, Musk has vowed that one winner will continue to be chosen each day from the pool of registered voters who have signed the petition.
"Every day, from now until the election, we're giving out a million-dollar prize. And all you have to do is sign a petition in support of the Constitution," Musk said on stage at the rally. "It's very straightforward. You don't even have to vote."
Over the weekend, the first two winners were announced by the CEO of X (formerly Twitter) at America PAC-hosted events.
Meet the Winners
John Dreher
John Dreher was the first lucky winner. Footage posted to X shows him wearing a MAGA hat, pumping his arms in the air, and smiling at the event, hosted by Musk, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
"I've been following you for 10 years—got your biography 10 years ago and been watching ever since and big fan," Dreher said to Musk.
"When he called me, the first thing that happened, I screamed. It was a million dollars," said Dreher, speaking on a video posted to Musk's PAC X page. "I was pumping my arms in the air... Actually meeting Elon, I kind of forgot about the money for a little bit...He's such an influential figure for guys my age who are working hard every day."
Kristine Fishell
The second winner, Kristine Fishell, took to the stage at the event in Pittsburgh, hosted by Musk, on Sunday, wearing a red Trump Vance t-shirt, smiling broadly and looking stunned, as she thanked the business mogul. She accepted an oversized novelty million-dollar check, before holding it aloft with both hands to cheers and applause from the audience. Asked by Musk if there was anything she wanted to say, Fishell responded:
"Thank you so much for... I mean I truly believe everything you're doing, truly. You don't need to be doing it, I know a lot of us feel the same way. Your wealth and responsibility you are using to save speech and we just appreciate it, we really do. Thank you so much!"
Fishell then hugged Musk and exited the stage to rapturous applause.
Both winners were featured on Musk's PAC's X page America (@america), urging people to vote and sign the petition.
