Emmerdale this week kicks off with a bang, as things get even more tense for Marlow as the past is brought to light during his desperate search for April.

It has been three weeks since April’s (Amelia Flanagan) disappearance, but Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Rhona (Zoe Henry) have not yet given up their search. Despite several setbacks, they start afresh this week – but they are soon to hit a huge bump in the road. Emmerdale spoilers for this week reveal viewers will see something from Rhona's past brought back into focus and a devastating admission – April could be dead.

The young character has been MIA since Christmas Day, with her last sighting showing her getting into an unfamiliar car driven by an unknown person. April's vanishing act followed a tumultuous period in the Dales.

Previously, she was kidnapped by the dangerous Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore) and discovered the truth about her mum Donna's (Verity Rushworth) death in 2014. Subsequently, April turned to alcohol and drugs and had a falling out with Marlon.

Marlon and Rhona further concerned when they found out she was on the pill. A family liaison officer, Anna (Rhea Bailey), then revealed that April also had a secret social media account

On there, she discussed her – incorrect – belief that her dad was having an affair with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy). Days later, student doctor Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) informed them that April had been admitted to the emergency department at A&E after being attacked.

After rushing to the hospital, the parents were told that the girl had passed away during surgery. However, it turns out that they had got the wrong girl – April is still out there somewhere.

Last week, Marlon shared an online appeal video. However, online trolls accused the parents of dodgy wrongdoings.

Two vigilantes then tricked their way into the vets. As one kept Rhona occupied, the other crept into the house and started livestreaming from April’s bedroom whilst searching for "evidence".

This week, Marlon will begin suffering nightmares that April is dead, and as he wakes up he tries to cover his distress from Rhona.

Taking matters into her own hands, Rhona sees the latest coverage off the case and realises they're dragging up her past. Potentially over the baby Ivy controversy, which saw Gus and Lucy used an embryo that Rhona and Gus created during their marriage without Rhona's permission.

Now, the public are questioning whether Marlon and Rhona had a role in April's disappearance. And they both question whether April could in fact be dead.

Meanwhile, over at The Woolpack, the villagers pull together in an attempt to boost morale and continue the search.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm.
