Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater are adorably celebrating Wicked‘s recent Oscar nominations — including the pop singer’s first-ever nod for Best Supporting Actress.
On January 23, 2025, just hours after the 2025 Oscar nominations were announced, Ethan hit Instagram to share a sneak peek of how the couple marked the occasion. The post featured Ariana looking effortlessly chic while holding a bunch of pink balloons (very Glinda-coded, obviously). She’s perched by a massive hotel window with a stunning view of what looks like a European city.
ICYMI, the “thank u, next” singer scored a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, marking a huge milestone in her career. Naturally, Ari was overwhelmed with emotion and took to her own Instagram to process it all with her fans.
“Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to [The Academy] for this unfathomable recognition,” Ariana wrote in her caption. “I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise. I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny Ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ just before the big, beautiful bubble entered.”
Ariana also used her post to shout out Wicked director Jon M. Chu and her costar Cynthia Erivo, who’s also nominated—this time for Best Actress in a Leading Role. FYI, Wicked earned a total of 10 Oscar nominations.
“Thank you @jonmchu for taking this chance on me and for being the most unbelievably brilliant leader, human being, and most fierce friend,” she wrote. “I am so deeply proud of my beautiful Wicked family. I am so proud of my Elphie, my sister, my dear @cynthiaerivo. Your brilliance is never-ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden. I love you unconditionally, always. I don’t quite have all my words yet, I’m still trying to breathe. But thank you. Oh my goodness, thank you. Universal, Marc, my family, my heart.”
As for Ethan, who played Boq in the film, he’s been one of Ariana’s biggest cheerleaders from day one. Back in October 2024, he gushed about her performance during an interview with GQ.
“I’m just really excited,” he said. “I’m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she’s done on this. She’s poured herself into it. I’m really proud that I got to be there for that part of it, and I’m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.”
