Eugene Levy's $3.9 million California home destroyed by Hollywood wildfires

Schitt's Creek star Eugene is among the raft of Hollywood celebrities who have been left devastated by huge wildfires raging across the greater Los Angeles area.

The American Pie actor has lost his home, which is situated in LA's Pacific Palisades - one of the worst affected neighbourhoods.

Levy, 78, told the LA Times that he was stuck in a huge traffic jam as he tried to evacuate and get to safety as the flames spread to his $3.9million mansion and burnt it to the ground.

The two-storey property, dating back to 1950, was purchased by the star in 2006 and featured three bedrooms and three baths.

The star told the LA Times on Tuesday that the smoke he could see as it hovered over Temescal Canyon was "pretty black and intense".

He went on: "I couldn’t see any flames, but the smoke was very dark."

Levy is Canadian and grew up in Toronto, where he's reported to own a bigger family home. The LA mansion was a base for the star while he worked and filmed projects in LA.

The legendary actor and writer brought up his kids - fellow Schitt's Creek stars Dan and Sarah - in Canada but the family have strong Scottish roots thanks to Eugene's mum Rebecca Kudlats, who was born in Glasgow where she lived until 12 before her family emigrated.

As we reported last year, despite growing up listening to her stories of life in a tenement, Eugene had never set foot in Scotland until last year while filming the second series of his hit show The Reluctant Traveller.

The dad of two, who played Johnny Rose in the award-winning Netflix sitcom Schitt’s Creek, said he felt an instant connection with Glasgow, where Rebecca lived with her 11-strong family in a three-bedroom flat.

Levy was named Pacific Palisades' honorary mayor in 2021.

Officials have been providing updates on the fires. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for areas north of Hollywood Blvd, west of U.S Highway 101 all the way to Laurel Canyon Blvd. Evacuation warnings have been issued for blocks stretching from N Stanley Ave to Laurel Canyon between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard.

Mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect near the Palisades fire west of Los Angeles. Residents have also been instructed to vacate their homes in the San Fernando Valley due to the Hurst fire.

Further evacuation orders have been issued for parts of Santa Monica and Altadena because of the Eaton fire. The wildfires have tragically claimed five lives so far, with over 15,000 acres and 1,100 structures having been consumed by the flames.
