Eva Longoria is set to discover ancestors in Spain after turning her back on America.

The Desperate Housewives star is set to explore her ancestral roots in her new series Searching for Spain, which premieres on April 27 on CNN. The show follows the mum-of-one as she examines Spain’s culinary traditions and incredible food, all while reconnecting with her family history.

In the trailer for the new series, which follows her Searching for Mexico programme, the 49-year-old reveals: “Eleven generations ago, one of my ancestors left Spain for the new world and new life. Four hundred years later, I'm back to see how the land and its people have created one of the world's most exciting cuisines.”

Emphasising the cultural significance of food, she added, “If you can preserve your food and your recipes, you can teach the rest of the world who you are. I get to visit long-lost family.”

The show highlights Spain’s regional diversity, showcasing coastal fishing ports, vineyards, and mountainous areas known for high-quality produce. According to the official synopsis, “From homemade tapas, fresh regional seafood delicacies, rustic paellas and beyond, Eva will enjoy some of Spain's most iconic traditional dishes and explore how innovative Spanish cuisine is propelling the future of fine dining.”

This follows Longoria’s previous series, Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico, where she explored the impact of history and culture on Mexican cuisine.

Originally from Texas, Longoria holds Spanish citizenship and has spent much of her adult life in California. She recently relocated to Spain with her husband, producer José Bastón, and their son, Santiago, in part to work on this series. She previously stated that she no longer wants to live in Los Angeles, describing her move as the end of a chapter in her life.

In November, Longoria denied that her decision to leave the U.S. was politically motivated, clarifying that she moved over three years ago for work-related reasons and now primarily divides her time between Spain and Mexico.

Joining Ana Navaro on the Behind the Table podcast, she stated: "Will you please let them know I didn't move out of the United States because of Trump? I've been in Europe for almost three years. That's why I'm in Europe. I didn't leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there."

She went on: "I'm a proud American. I've always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American. I didn't want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections." The series will feature visits to cities including Madrid, San Sebastian, Barcelona, and Seville, as Longoria explores her ties to the region and showcases local culinary traditions.
