When Does ‘The Odyssey’ Come Out?
The Odyssey will premiere in theatres on July 17, 2026.
According to an X post from Universal Pictures, the project “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”
The Odyssey is expected to start shooting early next year, and marks the director’s second film for Universal, on the heels of his Best Picture winner Oppenheimer.
Homer’s The Odyssey is one of the oldest stories of all time, and chronicles the story of Greek hero Odysseus during his tumultuous journey home following the Trojan War. The tale includes encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in his reunion with his wife, Penelope.
Who Stars In ‘The Odyssey’?
Alongside Tom and Zendaya, other actors set to star include Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong’o.
In December 2024, Tom admitted to signing on to the project without knowing many details.
“To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know what it’s about,” Holland recently said on “The Dish” podcast. “I’m super excited, but it’s been pretty quiet about the project. I met with [Christopher] and it was awesome. He kind of loosely pitched what it is, and I’m sure when he’s ready he’ll announce what it’s about.”
The Spider-Man actor also spoke about what it’s been like to act alongside his girlfriend, joking that studios “love it.”
“Studios love it. One hotel room. Separate drivers. We’re not crazy now. Listen it’s work, alright?” he laughed, before explaining: “Oh God, yeah. It’s a saving grace. Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said. “It’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.”
