Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island just bid farewell to another competitor. Charles “Rock” Carlson was in the bottom three along with La Shell Wooten and Seychelle Cordero. Meanwhile, Courtney “CK” Kim and Maria-Grace “MG” Cook had to decide who would play against the Banker in The Temple. In the end, Rock decided to take his fate in his hands and play the Banker.
Unfortunately, Rock made a bad deal and was eliminated. He went against his gut and accepted a deal to add money to the final case for the winner. However, his energy and positivity lit up The Temple. Rock joined Reality Tea writer Kim Stempel to discuss his elimination and the biggest threats on the island.
Rock hopes his experience on Deal or No Deal Island serves as “an inspiration” to others
When asked about his favorite memory from the show, Rock had a couple in mind. “Probably the fact that I got my happy ass in there, into the cast. And coming around that corner and seeing the island – the Banker’s Island was just so real. Along with all the snakes, the spiders, the howler monkeys,” Rock said with a howl. “I mean, believe me, it was amazing, man. And it’s an opportunity of a lifetime, especially being 65. I’m 66 now, you know. And playing this game with people 40-plus years younger than me, as well as a little bit less than that.”
Rock continued, “It was an opportunity of a lifetime, and it’s something I’ll never, ever forget. As well as something that will show my family that no matter how old you are, or young you are, don’t let anybody ever tell you you can’t do something. Or you can’t make something of yourself and be an inspiration for others to go for it.” He added, “That was the biggest thing that I think was the best thing about the island.”
Next, Rock reflected on who were the biggest threats on the island – human and non-human. “Besides the damn howler monkeys, the snakes, the bugs, the ants. I mean, the ants were on their rear legs, man, eating the rats. I mean, come on!” he stated. “Everything in the jungle wants to kill you, and everybody on the island and your cast members want to kill you.” That’s a fair observation.
“I think probably it’s gonna be [Alexis] Lete or Dr. Will [Kirby], in a sense. I really do. Lete’s tough and she’s smart. She may not play it, but she’s smart. And she’s so damn athletic, you know?” Rock commented. “But I gotta tell you, that whole cast was a bunch of goddang beasts, animals, and gorgeous people. They’re all just staying in shape and working out, you know? Unlike me … looking for the donuts and the cupcakes. Zilch!” The corrections officer added, “Anyway, I think probably Lete.”
Rock called playing against the Banker “over-fricking-whelming” on Deal or No Deal Island
Playing against the Banker in The Temple was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Rock called his time in The Temple spotlight, “Over-fricking-whelming.” He stated, “Let me tell you, man. It’s just so surreal. I mean, it’s just … it’s unbelievable, you know? Especially being there with Joe [Manganiello] and everything else.”
Rock continued, “You know when we started it, you know I was like, ‘Hey. We’re making a deal now, right?’ And [Joe] said, ‘Yes. We hope so.’ I said, ‘Well before every deal let’s have a shot. Isn’t that the way every bargaining thing starts? You know, let’s go, brother!’”
He added, “No Coors Light. They didn’t give me sh*t, but hey, I’m telling you … I loved it and I got the cast pumped up. And I love each and every one of them. You know, they’re all great people, man.” Still, everyone’s head was in the game. “But I tell you what, they talked so much sh*t I didn’t know whether to give them a breath mint, paper towel, toilet paper to clean themselves up, or a bib,” Rock said.
“I tell you, it was overwhelming and I loved it. But again, there was no pressure from any of them for me to make my decision. But the lights, the camera, and the action was unbelievable,” he stated.
The Deal or No Deal Island contestant added, “No matter how much you yell and scream at your TV, ‘Do this, do that,’ you know? But when you’re in it, it’s a different ballgame. Much respect to NBC and, you know, casting.”
Deal or No Deal Island continues on Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC and streams the next day on Peacock.
