Kitty Scott Claus is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated drag queens on the UK circuit. Having competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and now tackling RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars, she’s gone from strength to strength. For those who get her blunt sense of humor, Kitty is a powerhouse entertainer. Reality Tea Managing Editor Daniel Falconer got some time to chat with Kitty, all about her Drag Race journey, Global All Stars domination, weight loss journey, and more. Read on to find out what she had to say…
Kitty Scott Claus on RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars
“It was wild!” Kitty says of the Global All Stars experience. “I think what made the stakes so high this time is that 10 out of 12 queens competing were finalists on their original seasons, so there was really no room to slip up! It was such an amazing experience to see different drag represented by all these different countries. We’re all there because we love drag and do it in our own way, which I think made it very interesting.”
One of Kitty’s standout moments from the season so far, was her Snatch Game of Love win. There, she gave an incredible performance as Princess Diana. “I think the most important thing when portraying someone as beloved and celebrated as Princess Diana is that it comes from a place of love,” Kitty explained. “Also, the thought of Princess Di appearing on a Blind Date-style show is funny from the off. I felt like I had so much to work with, so you’re already onto a winner.”
As for Kitty’s Snatch Game backup? Susan Boyle. “I’d love to have done Cheryl Cole or Nadine Coyle, but don’t think the accents would lend themselves to it. OMG, or imagine a Lisa Scott Lee Snatch Game … iconic!”
And what if Kitty had been eliminated before the makeover challenge? Which of the other queens would she have trusted to make her over? “None of them! I don’t want to look like a clown! Who else can pull off a blonde wig and casual separates?” she quipped. “Joking. I think Pythia is an incredible artist and think she’d do an incredible job; I feel like it’d be very out of my comfort zone but it would be so cool.”
Kitty Scott Claus’ weight loss journey and losing seven stone in a year
“I don’t ever think there was a problem with my size to begin with; I think you can be beautiful and confident at whatever size you are,” Kitty said. Still, she has lost a whopping seven stone in a year, and it’s all down to one conversation with fellow drag queen, and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK competitor, Ella Vaday.
“My friend Ella had this personal trainer and we were on tour together at the time, and she was saying how I’d really get on with [a personal trainer] and should go for a session just to see what it was like.”
Kitty continued, “Anyway, I ended up going for a session with the PT, Monty Simmons and we got on so well, and most importantly he made it SO EASY for me. I remember I started seeing results really quickly. I think because it was so simple and I was enjoying it so much it sort of became this snowball effect and I started training at the gym every day I wasn’t seeing Monty, I took up swimming (which I LOVE), I stopped drinking alcohol, put myself in a calorie deficit and then started marathon training in April this year.
“People always ask how I did it and I think the biggest thing is consistency, finding the energy and the effort to go and train every day. I think as well in 2024 people are so quick to put it down to things like weight loss drugs, but I like to show that changing diet and exercise habits – the old school route some might say – works just fine as well.”
The future for Kitty Scott Claus, and her advice for upcoming RuPaul’s Drag Race competitors
Now having competed in two different seasons of Drag Race, Kitty has learned a few things. So, to queens competing in the future on one of the best reality competition shows of all time, she has some advice. “Never be a Diet Coke version of someone else, always be a full fat version of you! What’s the point in going into a process like Drag Race thinking, ‘I’m going to be the Cheryl Hole of the season,’ or, ‘I’m going to be the Vanity Milan?’ You’re your own person with your own story, so find what works for you and run with it!”
As for the future, would Kitty do any other shows after Drag Race and Celebrity MasterChef? “I have a list as long as … How long do you have?! Put the word ‘celebrity’ in the title and I’ll be on it! I’d love to be the first drag queen to appear in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom. Or Celebs Go Dating … I’m basically the Bridget Jones of drag at this point.
There are plenty of solid projects in the pipeline, along with these dream gigs. “I’ve got an Australian tour coming up in November which is very exciting. Then, I’m going to be appearing as Wendy in Peter Pan at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End throughout December before going straight into RuPaul’s DragCon UK in January which is always wild,” Kitty said. “Then more tours and travels and some exciting TV bits coming up. Who knew cross dressing could lead to this?!” Mama Ru did!
Keep on killing it, Kitty. We can’t wait to watch your journey continue.
