John Oliver said on Sunday night that there are lots of reasons to be angry after Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in last week’s presidential election.
He even said he’d understand if viewers tuned out this week.
“I totally get it,” he said, before getting into some of the reasons he’s pretty ticked off himself.
“I am mad for trans people who’ve been threatened. I’m disgusted at the prospect of mass deportation. I’m furious at Biden for not dropping out earlier, and that the egos and inaction of two men older than credit cards themselves have led us to this point,” he said.
He’s also mad at Elon Musk, at the prospect of Trump undoing efforts to fight climate change and the idea of him potentially appointing more Supreme Court justices.
But one thing in particular really set him off.
“I’m mad at the prospect of four more years of people saying, ‘So is your job, like, so much easier with Trump as president?’” he said. “No, it is not. No, it fucking isn’t. Fuck you so much!”
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert had a similar reaction last week.
“People often say to me, ‘C’mon, part of you has got to want Trump to win because he gives you so much material to work with,’” he said. “No. No one tells the guy who cleans the bathroom, ‘Wow, you must love it when someone has explosive diarrhea. There’s so much material for you to work with!’”
