The news of the Moana live action movie has people excited to see Catherine Lagaaia bring the titular character to life but as shooting already begins, fans have chosen to focus on Dwayne Johnson's body instead as they suspect he's in a suit.
The Rock portrays Maui, a Polynesian demigod who helps the main character on her quest to return the heart of the goddess of nature, and the character is known for his tattoos, long hair and muscular frame.
So the former-NFL player and iconic wrestler, who stands at 6ft 4in and weighs 260lbs, is a perfect fit to bring him to life in live-action since he only needs a wig to complete the look and he already has the voice after playing the character in the 2016 animated original.
Yet despite the ideal body for the role, fans believe he isn't quite as authentic as he looks in some leaked photos from the set in Hawaii, suspecting the 52-year-old is wearing a body suit instead.
One user said on X.com, formerly Twitter, "The Rock and skinny don't go in the same sentence but it does look like a body suit."
A second added, "Wait is The Rock THAT big or is that a body suit?"
And a third commented, "You signed The Rock and then put him in a body suit? Aw hellllll nooooo."
Is Johnson in a body suit?
It's unclear if Johnson, who began his acting career in 1999, is wearing a body suit because he is genuinely jacked and muscular. However, he is also playing a demigod and that could mean the director needs even more bang for his buck.
Fans suggest the arms are why he's in a suit, with the biceps looking larger than usual, although it is possible for actors to get that big.
In the MCU, for example, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and Dave Bautista as Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, it simply gets harder to maintain a huge frame with age. It's part of why Bautista and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) walked away from their roles, although the latter has since returned.
