Sean Hayes and Will Arnett are good friends and co-hosts of the SmartLess podcast, where they recently opened up about Hayes' heart condition on the Monday, November 18, episode.
Hayes and Arnett, both 54, had actor Hugh Grant as a guest on the pod where he complained about the effects of jet lag during the episode. The conversation then pivoted to the Will & Grace star's health.
"I can't do it anymore," Grant, 64, said in reference to the lengthy flight from his home in London to Los Angeles. He later added, "I think that's another age thing. I woke up hours ago very, very hungry and felt like my heart is made of Play-Doh."
Arnett responded to his guest's complaints by sharing that Hayes recently "woke up in the middle of the night with a heart issue" himself and "didn't wake up his husband," and instead drove himself to the hospital.
The Arrested Development star explained that the medical staff treated Hayes, and after they were done, the actor "drove home." Arnett also admitted that his co-host woke up an hour later to use the bathroom and had to drive himself back to the hospital for a second time for another round of shock therapy to get his heart back to a regular rhythm.
Fans of the actor took to the comments section of a YouTube video of the health update to express their thoughts about the actor's recent hospitalization.
One wrote, "Praying for you, Sean. Been hospitalized 3 times since June with A-fib. Scary. đ," while a second added, He's in our prayers Wishing a speedy recovery." A third fan said, "Heck Sean-glad you made it-I drove myself in and had a double bypass đNow I have survived 7-Be well-maybe wake up hubby-for safetyđ."
The Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor previously spoke about his heart condition and routine visits to the ER on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2021. During the program, Hayes told Kimmel, "I have AFib." He went on and explained, "So your heart beats [very fast]. You feel like you're gonna die." Later in the interview, Hayes told the host that he visits the hospital quite often and said, "When I go to the ER... at Cedars-Sinai, I'm like Norm from Cheers, because I'm in there all the time."
Hayes is best known for his portrayal of Jack McFarland on Will & Grace from 1998 until the sitcom's end in 2006. The actor reprised his role for the revival of the series that ran from 2017 to 2020.
