The result of the 2024 presidential election has already seeped into the NFL. Football fans are calling for president-elect Donald Trump to change the Washington Commanders name back to the Washington Redskins, according to MLFootball.

The majority of fans are reportedly in favor of changing the team's name back. Back in June, the Washington Post released a poll that said 58 percent of fans said they don't like the team's new name.

With Trump being elected as the country's 47th president, fans are hoping he will make an effort to help change the organization's name. It's uncertain how much the president-elect could do since the team's name is the choice of the Washington ownership.

The team had been known as the Washington Redskins since the 1930s but rebranded as the "Washington Football Team" in 2020. In 2022, the Commanders officially changed their name.

Fans have shared their opinions on X, a majority indicating that Trump should take some course of action to encourage the Washington organization to change its name back.

He should absolutely do it 100%. Remember the Washington Redskins only one Super Bowl championships under a Republican presidency. 2 under Reagan and 1 under Bush Senior.

Every time I hear the sports commentators say “commanders“ I think DEI and it ruins the game

The organization is open to changing the name, but the wife of Commanders majority owner Josh Harris hinted that a possible name change wouldn't come for some time.

"As you would imagine, everybody has an opinion about the name," Majorie Harris said. "Some good, some bad, some in the middle. I think that we have a lot of work to do, so that name issue is gonna be on the side for now until we can get things going.

"Quite frankly, I had a whole day out in the community, and I kept referring to the team as the Commanders. And you know what? It sounds pretty good to me. So for now, it's the Commanders."

Ahead of the 2024 season, Harris said the franchise's focus would be on becoming a championship team.

"This year, it's about our organization," Harris said. "Last year was a little about finding our way and not being able to make the changes that we were hoping to make until we had the opportunity to do it. Now we did. We have an amazing quarterback (rookie Jayden Daniels) and we have an amazing coach (Quinn) and GM (Adam Peters) and we're really putting the pieces together.

"We're all really excited about what this team is starting to look like and what hopefully can happen with a little bit of luck and magic and skill and hard work."

Ten weeks into the season, Jayden Daniels and company have put Washington back on the map. The Commanders are currently first in the NFC East and have a record of 7-2.

There is no telling if the Commanders would explore a name change in 2025, but it's evident the team is certainly going all in this season.
