However in 2022 after several years of taking long breaks between drinks she made the decision to call it quits completely.

“I was not an alcoholic, and I don’t want this to take away from people who do struggle. I just drank because it’s what we get told was a social thing to do,” the actress told Daily Mail.

“At times, it would help with my anxiety and then over time I realised, especially as you get older and hormones change, alcohol just wasn’t working for me anymore.”

“I think that growing up in Australia you think that maybe you’ll stand out for not drinking, so I didn’t say anything for a while because it wasn’t something I was struggling with.

“Then, over time, the want for it just slowly started to disappear. It took a while.”

Sursok explained that in the past she had used alcohol as a way to relax during social events but she would always end up with a bad headache.

“That was the biggest thing for me and also drinking with food. I loved having a glass of wine with dinner, but I always came home and felt dizzy and nauseous,” she explained.

“I can honestly say I don’t miss it. I don’t think about it. I don’t miss it. It’s not a part of our lives anymore.”

She said when she entered her 30s the consequences of drinking became worse, and she was “having very little time where I was actually feeling good”.

Reflecting on her consumption of alcohol, Sursok said she did not miss it and “it’s not a part of our lives anymore”.

Sursok is married to film producer Sean McEwan and the pair have two young girls, Phoenix, 11 and Lennon, 5.

“I think there’s a big push towards a sober lifestyle and I think that the more we talk about it, I think it’s going to help a lot of people.”

On December 4 she celebrated her two-year milestone with a video highlighted how positive the decision had been and everything she had achieved and experienced since.

“The process of giving up alcohol was actually a long one,” she captioned the post.

“I’d do ‘Dry January’ feel better and then drink on weekends again.

“I’d have half glasses and sips of alcohol instead of a full glass. And then one day I just was done. I wanted to feel my best. I wanted to be happier in the long term. I wanted to just try being clear-headed.

“I can honestly say, not only do I NOT miss it at all, I actually am more excited to be social and have fun, go to concerts, be with my family.“I’m sharing my journey. You do you! This also might be inspiration and a sign to try something new in 2025 and see how it goes!”

Followers congratulated Sursok, with many sharing their own sobriety milestones.

“Congratulations, I’ll have 16 years this month. Best thing I ever did for myself,” one said.

“10 years since I’ve had any alcohol, don’t miss it at all!! Was never a big drinker to begin with,” a second wrote.

“Fantastic work. And the best part of being sober is being 100 per cent present for our kiddos. I have way less brain fog, more energy and lost 13kg. It’s so worth it 🙌❤️,” added another.

“This is exactly what I’ve been trying to say when explaining how I feel after alcohol. You said it so perfectly. Im seriously considering doing the same for the exact same reasons. Thank you!!” a user said.
