Is ‘RHOBH’ Alum Teddi Mellencamp Related to John Cougar Mellencamp?
Fans of the show likely recognized Teddi’s last name as soon as joined the cast during Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 8. Her father is singer John Cougar Mellencamp, the man behind the 1982 classic “Jack and Diane,” along with a host of other songs.
Teddi has been open about her sometimes-difficult relationship with John as she grew up, and in May 2024, she admitted that they didn’t speak for a few years.
“I think he always tried his best,” Teddi explained during an appearance on the “Sibling Revelry” podcast with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson on May 19, 2024. “Do I think that we’re in a way better place now than when I was a kid? Yes, but also because I mean, I didn’t really understand the importance of a good relationship with my parents when I was a kid.”
She continued, “I mean, there was one point — we joke about this conversation because it’s probably so traumatizing — but I got mad at him for something. And he said, ‘You know what? Eff you, Teddi. I have other kids,’ and we didn’t talk for a couple of years.”
Who Is Teddi Mellencamp’s Mom?
Teddi’s mom, Victoria Granucci, married John in 1981 and welcomed Teddi that same year. The mom of three has mentioned that she and her mom had a strained relationship in the past. In 2022, Teddi shared that her mom had been admitted to the hospital.
“She was leaving her shift, and she tripped and fell, and she has a brain bleed, so she was in the ICU for four days,” Teddi told Tamra Judge during an episode of the “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast in October 2022, per Reality Blurb.
The former reality star then went into more detail about her and Vicky’s relationship, and she described her mom as taking on more of a friend role as opposed to being motherly. This led Teddi to distance herself from her mom for a bit.
“It just kind of got to the point where I really set boundaries and kind of pulled away,” Teddi confessed.
Why Did Teddi Mellencamp Leave ‘RHOBH?’
Teddi’s time on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was short lived, and she was fired after just three seasons. After being removed from the cast after season 10 in 2020, she’s still made a few guest appearances in the following seasons.
In November 2023, Teddi invited RHOBH executive producer Alex Baskin onto her podcast and she didn’t hold back on asking why she was let go from the cast.
“I think there was a strong audience reaction to you,” Alex told her. “So I do think that was part of it. Not gonna deny that. And I also think that you were self-conscious.”
He continued, “The production always had your back … was a big fan of yours because you would say things that other people were thinking and wouldn’t say. I think it felt like then, on that show, you weren’t comfortable in your own skin.”
