In a candid 2008 interview with the A. V. Club, Teri discussed being typecast in Hollywood, saying: "If there's ever a woman who's smart, funny, or witty, people are afraid of that, so they don't write that."

"They only write parts for women where they let everything be steamrolled over them, where they let people wipe their feet all over them. Those are the kind of parts I play, and the kind of parts that there are for me in this world. In this life."

Not only did she make a name for herself hosting Saturday Night Live three times, but she was also a frequent guest on the likes of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Night With David Letterman.

In her 2006 autobiography Speedbumps: Flooring It Through Hollywood, she chronicled the highs and lows of her career in Tinseltown.

Teri Garr, the beloved star of Young Frankenstein, has died at the age of 79 following a prolonged health struggle.

The actress died on Tuesday (October 29) in Los Angeles after a long fight with multiple sclerosis (MS). Teri, who was Oscar-nominated for her role in Tootsie and charmed audiences as Inga in Young Frankenstein, had a rich career spanning several decades.

Her acting portfolio boasted an impressive array of roles in television and film throughout the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. Teri went public with her MS diagnosis in 2002 and also endured an aneurysm in 2006.

In Mel Brooks' classic 1974 comedy Young Frankenstein, Teri delivered the iconic line to Gene Wilder's Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: "Vould you like to have a roll in ze hay?" She also appeared in the hit sitcom Friends, portraying Phoebe Abbot, Phoebe Buffay's birth mother, in episodes across 1997 and 1998.
