In Q3 of this year, Samsung managed to get one of its flagship devices, the Galaxy S24, into the top 10 smartphones sold globally, a rare achievement.
When looking at a list of the top 10 smartphones being sold globally, the list is generally dominated by various iPhones and Samsung’s budget-focused Galaxy A devices. Rarely does a flagship Android phone actually crack the top 10, but that’s what Samsung managed to do in this latest quarter.
According to Counterpoint Research, the top selling smartphones globally in Q3 2024 were the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Pro. Those were followed by four Samsung devices – Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G, and Galaxy A05.
Rounding out the top 10 was the iPhone 14 and the Realme 13C 4G, followed in the tenth spot by the Samsung Galaxy S24. That’s the sole Android flagship on the list, with everything else powered by Android on that list falling under $400. In the same quarter last year, not a single Android device over $500 hit the top 10, with the Galaxy A54 being the most expensive in the seventh slot.
While Android devices still make up the majority of the global market, this look at the top 10 is a good reminder that the vast majority are on the more affordable end of the spectrum. High-end, premium Android devices generally don’t make as much of an impact.
It’s also rather interesting to note that it’s specifically the base Galaxy S24 that managed to reach the top 10. Previously, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra was by far the biggest seller of the flagship trio, so it suggests that the base model has been considerably more popular in recent months.
