Celebrated British actress Alison Steadman, beloved for her portrayal of Pam in the hit series Gavin and Stacey, has been left wheelchair-bound after a distressing trip and fall incident in Dubai.

The 78-year-old star was partaking in the Desert Stanzas poetry event when she stumbled over an imbalanced concrete surface, sustaining serious injuries. Following the fall, Steadman is now nursing a hairline fracture in her leg and a broken hand.

Alison recounted the ordeal in her own words: "The path was uneven and I went flying. At the hospital I had tablets for the pain. It's been terrible. I don't think I've broken my leg but I twisted it badly so there could be a hairline fracture."

Equipped with a medical boot and bandaged hand, the formidable actress remains undeterred. In a wheelchair, she continues her engagements at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. Despite her condition, she and her husband, Michael Elwyn, even embarked on a nocturnal boat trip.

Steadman is planning to fly back to the UK for additional exams at London's Whittington Hospital, reports the Mirror.

Alison Steadman's recent work includes the release of her memoir, 'Out of Character', which among other stories chronicles her acclaimed role as Pamela Shipman.

Her association with the creators of Gavin and Stacey, Ruth Jones and James Corden, can be traced back to their shared time on ITV's Fat Friends, which subsequently influenced her casting in the popular BBC sitcom.

Alongside Steadman, stars such as Larry Lamb, Joanna Page, and Mathew Horne formed the show's beloved leading ensemble.

Alison reminisced about the casting process for Gavin and Stacey, praising the ensemble of actors as a perfect match for their characters: "Casting is key to the success of theatre, television, and film, and the casting director on Gavin and Stacey brought together an ensemble of actors that were a perfect fit for the characters that I'd read on the page. I can remember thinking on our first day together, this is the beginning of the best job ever."

She fondly described Joanna Page as "perfect" for the role of Stacey and referred to Mathew as "my little prince" in their chemistry as an onscreen couple. Alison reflected: "There was magic in the air, and we all felt it."

In her book, she also recounts how she fostered camaraderie among the cast and crew by organising social gatherings at the hotel bar, quickly nicknamed 'Ali's Parlour'.
