Gemma Atkinson candidly revealed a past betrayal by an ex-partner who cheated on her, after she was tipped off by a message on social media that exposed his deceit.

The former Hollyoaks actress has happily moved on with fiance and Strictly's dance sensation Gorka Marquez, with whom she shares two children.

The Hits Radio DJ recounted the moment she discovered a former partner's infidelity through an update he made on WhatsApp, which inadvertently led to her being contacted by another woman.

The 39-year-old soap star shared the shocking discovery: "My ex was cheating on me, and I found out on Instagram. A lovely lady DM'd me on Instagram when we were on holiday."

She detailed the blunder that caught him out: "I put a picture of a sunset on my grid, and he stupidly put it as his WhatsApp profile picture. He told her he was in Florida with the lads, and he was in the Bahamas."

Gemma described the aftermath without revealing his identity: "And we had no idea about each other. But she was so polite with me, and I was so polite with her because ultimately we didn't do anything wrong."

Speaking on The Over Share podcast last year, Gemma labelled her ex a "narcissist" and a "liar", reflecting on the emotional impact: "We were both kind of swept off our feet at the time by someone who we thought was wonderful but it turned out that he was a narcissist and a liar and just a really crappy person."

Despite the painful experience, Gemma's personal life has flourished with Gorka. The couple recently celebrated the birth of their son Thiago Thomas Marquez in July last year, declaring their family "complete" alongside their first child, daughter Mia, born over four years ago.

The couple who found love on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, Gemma and Gorka, recently opened up their home to the public by launching a new reality series. The show gave an insight into their lives as they prepared to welcome their second child.

Meanwhile, the couple will be celebrating a new milestone as Gemma turns 40 today (November 16).

The former Emmerdale star has been inundated with celebratory messages, when she received a surprise on her radio show on Friday.

A host of famous faces wished her a happy birthday, including Lorraine Kelly and Gary Barlow.

The TV star has since accompanied her beau Gorka to Blackpool as they mark Strictly's 20th anniversary.
