To determine if the jeans are the right waist size, simply use your forearm, from your elbow to your hand. Take your jeans and insert your arm into the waistband, with your elbow at one side and your hand clenched into a fist. If there's space between the end of your hand and the other side of the jeans, they'll be too big. If you can't fit your fist inside, they'll be too small.

However, if your arm fits snugly into the waistband without any struggle, then you've found your perfect size.

Feeling inspired to grab some new jeans? Our shopping writer Grace has discovered the perfect pair.

"I've always struggled to find the perfect pair of jeans. I've tried various shops, styles and washes but nothing ever seems to hit the mark. Either they're too short in the leg, too loose around the waist or too tight on the thighs. But now, New Look's new denim range has come to my rescue, with their Adalae style solving all my denim dilemmas," she enthuses.

"The Adalae High Waist Wide-Leg jeans, priced at £34.99 here, come in seven different washes ranging from bleach denim to trendy chocolate brown and my personal winter favourite, a deep indigo shade. Normally, I'm not a fan of wide-leg styles, preferring straight-leg or more relaxed fits, but the Adalae style has completely won me over."
