“Get Millie Black” is exactly what it sounds like: Someone is on the run, but who can stop them?
Well, perhaps the ex-Scotland Yard detective of the title. Tamara Lawrance stars as Millie-Jean Black, an investigator who returns to Kingston, Jamaica to work missing persons cases.
Per the official synopsis, Millie “soon finds herself on a quest to save a sibling who won’t be saved, to find a child who can’t be found, to solve a case that will blow her world apart and prove almost as tough to crack as Millie Black.”
The HBO limited series is created and executive produced by Booker Prize award-winning author Marlon James. Joe Dempsie, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, and Chyna McQueen co-star.
“Get Millie Black” is produced for HBO and Channel 4 by Motive Pictures. Creator James executive produces along with Jami O’Brien, Simon Maxwell (CEO Motive Pictures), and Leopoldo Gout. Tanya Hamilton is the lead director and co-executive producer.
Annetta Laufer and Jean Luc Herbulot each direct two episodes, with Joshua St. Johnston helming one episode.
The series is written by Theresa Ikoko, Lydia Adetunji, and creator James. Pia Furtado (Motive Pictures) is the story producer.
“Get Millie Black” is part of the trend of female detectives, with “True Detective: Night Country” and “Mare of Easttown” both at HBO. Additionally, Oscar and Emmy-winning stars Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis will co-lead an Amazon Prime Video series “Scarpetta,” with Kidman as a medical examiner. Prime Video has already announced a two-season order for the show in which the duo play sisters. Kidman, who recently led Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” and will return to Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” for Season 2, has been trying to adapt Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling novel “Scarpetta” for almost two decades. Both Curtis and Kidman are executive producing.
The official synopsis reads: “The mystery thriller, based on the hit book series, follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), the Chief Medical Examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.”
“Get Millie Black” premieres November 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. Check out the trailer below.
