Ridley Scott, the director of Gladiator 2 starring Denzel Washington, has denied the actor’s claims that his guy on guy kiss was cut from the movie.

“I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out, they cut it, I think they got chicken,” he told a reporter who asked him how “gay” Rome was. “I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.”

He added, “I killed him about five minutes later. It’s Gladiator. It’s the kiss of death.”

In a red carpet interview, Scott told Variety the kiss just did not happen.

“No, that’s bullsh-tt. It was a senator. They never did. They acted the moment and [it] didn’t happen,” he said.

Speaking to the outlet, Washington downplayed the kiss.

“It really is much ado about nothing,” he said. “They’re making more of it than it was. I kissed him on his hands, I gave him a peck and I killed him.”
