GMB: Susanna Reid opens up on lockdown weight gain

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid has spilled the secret to losing weight is to simply "stop snacking". The mum of three was vocal about gaining weight during lockdown.

She posted her two word tip on Instagram last year, describing it as her "secret" to losing weight. The breakfast TV stalwart has had a long weight loss jurney which began in 2018 when she opened up about losing 1.5 stone without going to the gym.

A fitness enthusiast like her ex-BBC peer Sophie Raworth, Susanna has completed two marathons, two Great North Runs, and several 10k races.

However, over the past few years she's had to quit the gym because it made her "too hungry", though she continues strength training at home with dumbbells and kettlebells, emphasizing its importance for women's health.

The broadcaster told viewers on Good Morning Britain: "I stopped going to the gym, I found it made me too hungry. I've levelled out, I lost a stone-and-a-half and that's enough, and I don't go to the gym."

She began to adjust her lifestyle after her doctor told her she was at the top end of her height's BMI describing it as "worryingly high" and recommended she lose weight.

it was at that point she cut out snacks from her hectic work schedule, stating that she now feels "fantastic". She confessed to Prima magazine: "I have to admit, I'd been feeling a little heavy for a while".

Susanna admitted her 4am wake-up call for work made her more susceptible to cravings, but she has since managed to control them.

She told Lorraine Kelly: "It can creep up without you noticing, and what I did was cut out snacking. I found waking up so early in the morning, you're in a sort of energy deficit. All your body can think is have toast, have biscuits, have calories, and you can pile [weight] on really quickly."

In addition to cutting out snacks, Susanna follows a a pescatarian diet and is "99.9%" alcohol free since 2019 following a doctor's advice about alcohol's detrimental effects on her skin.

She said she felt she was getting breakouts, rosacea, and spots, all of which were attributed to the booze. Speaking to The Times, she expressed relief at her decision, saying: "I'm rather glad I've given up drink because lockdown drinking, the pandemic prosecco, has been a serious issue. I gave up because a doctor told me to."

She echoed this in a chat with Woman magazine saying: “I stopped enjoying it. I prefer life alcohol-free life, it’s tiring and the hangxiety got to me. I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before.”
