Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway was back on our screens on Friday morning alongside co-host Paul Brand to deliver the latest news from the UK and around the world
GMB: Kate Garraway announces breaking newsGood Morning Britain's Kate Garraway dropped a bombshell breaking news update just minutes into Friday's show. The 57-year-old presenter, alongside her co-host Paul Brand, delivered heart-wrenching news as the California wildfires continue to wreak havoc.
Just yesterday, GMB host Ross King spoke of his concern about having to evacuate his home. It comes after a bunch of celebrities have seen the fires rage through their mansions.
At the start of the programme, Kate announced: "Good Morning Britain, breaking news, the latest wildfire to hit Los Angeles overnight is being investigated as arson."
She continued with the grim details: "Five fires are still raging across the city, fanned by increasingly strong winds. Ten people have been killed but officials warn the death toll is set to rise."
The Golden State has been left reeling as a series of catastrophic blazes claim lives, decimate communities, and force thousands to abandon their homes in panic – some of which belong to A-listers. Celebs like Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Ricki Lake, and Academy Award-winning lyricist Diane Warren have all reported their homes lost to the inferno.
Firefighters are battling tirelessly against the original Palisades fire, with evacuation orders impacting at least 70,000 residents as LA finds itself shrouded in a dense haze of smoke and ash.
Meanwhile, a fresh blaze has ignited in the Hollywood Hills, posing a threat to iconic landmarks such as the Walk of Fame and Hollywood Bowl, which has already evacuated its personnel, while fierce winds help spread burning embers that could spell further destruction for more properties and endanger additional lives, reports the Manchester Evening News.
On Thursday's edition of Good Morning Britain, Richard Armitage, star of The Hobbit film series and no stranger to Hollywood blockbusters, opened up about the catastrophic wildfires engulfing parts of Los Angeles. Sharing his concern, he told viewers: "There was a lot of texting last night, I've got representatives and friends and colleagues (in the area)... making sure they're okay, but also thinking they're busy dealing with evacuations. But it is apocalyptic. I've never seen it."
During the same episode, show hosts Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls linked up with ITV's entertainment guru Ross King, who was broadcasting live from LA.
Visibly shaken by the disaster, King described the ordeal as the 'scariest' and 'weirdest' experience of his life as he prepped for an emergency exit from his own house. Just last month, Malibu locals faced evacuation orders due to the wind-lashed Franklin Fire, ravaging over 4,000 acres and driving celebs like Dick Van Dyke, Cher and Jane Seymour from their swanky homes.
