Google Docs adding Imagen 3 image generation

5 days ago 2

Following Help me visualize in Slides, Google is adding Gemini image generation to Docs on the web for Workspace users.

From the Insert menu > Image, select Help me create an image and describe what you want. You can select an aspect ratio (Square, Wide, and Tall) and style: Photography, Vector art, Sketch, Watercolor, Cyberpunk, or I’m feeling lucky.

You’re given a few options, with a click adding to your document. Google imagines this being useful for a restaurant menu, marketing campaign brief, or promotional flier: “The ability to generate unique images with Gemini in Docs empowers everyone, regardless of artistic skill, to create differentiated and visually compelling content. Now you can communicate ideas more effectively, without having to tirelessly search for the perfect image.”

This is powered by Imagen 3, with the ability to “create photorealistic images of people, landscapes, and more with even better detail than before.”

There’s also Insert > Cover image > Help me create an image if you’re using pageless mode ( File > Page setup > Pageless or Format > Switch to Pageless format). This will “span the entire width of the document.”

Google Docs image generation is rolling out over the coming weeks if you’re a paying Google Workspace customer with:

  • Gemini Business
  • Gemini Enterprise
  • Gemini Education
  • Gemini Education Premium
  • Google One AI Premium
