Google TV Streamer is one step closer to getting BBC iPlayer

1 week ago 2

Following its launch, the new Google TV Streamer has lacked a key app in the UK, BBC iPlayer. But, finally, it seems that’s about to change.

BBC iPlayer is an important app in the UK, and also one that has an approval process for new devices. So, despite being supported on Google’s previous Chromecast devices, the new Google TV Streamer had to be manually approved again. That left buyers of the new set-top box in the UK without the app available for download, as we reported.

Over the past few days, the BBC has officially certified the Google TV Streamer for iPlayer, the main roadblock that was in place for releasing the app on the device.

Unfortunately, iPlayer is not yet available to download from the Play Store on Google’s latest device, but this certification should pave the way for that launch.
