Chanel Maya Banks, who is best known for appearing on The CW’s popular teen drama Gossip Girl, was reported missing in October 2024, and she was found unharmed on November 13, 2024. What updates have been shared about the case and what has Banks’ family said about her disappearance?
When Did Chanel Banks Go Missing?
Banks’ cousin Danielle-Tori Singh revealed that the actress hadn’t been in contact with her friends and family since October 30, 2024.
“Two welfare checks were performed on November 7, and another two welfare checks on November 8. She was not in her apartment. Chanel is an official missing person in California,” a GoFundMe page set up for Chanel read. “She has been married for just over a year, and her husband is being uncooperative with police. On November 10 my aunt and I were able to get into the apartment and all of her belongings are still there. The only items we did not locate are her phone and laptop. She also does not go anywhere without her little dog, which also has been left behind.”
Singh said that Chanel did not leave with her “vehicle because it’s parked in her garage.”
“She would NEVER go anywhere without telling her mom or myself. We noticed on November 10 that her husband has a busted lip and marks and scratches on his neck and arms,” Singh continued in the GoFundMe page. “Police were called on November 10 and they took pictures of his injuries, which he did not have two days ago when police did the last welfare check.”
Singh said that she and Banks’ mom, Judy Singh, asked the husband where Banks was, and he allegedly replied, “She does not want to be found, she will reach out when she’s ready.”
According to Singh, Banks’ husband claimed that he did not know where she was and he hadn’t seen or heard from her since November 7, 2024. He also claimed to not reach out to the police amid her disappearance.
Singh went on to explain that she created the GoFundMe because their family needed “to hire a private investigator” in hopes of finding Chanel.
“LAPD have told us because there’s no signs of foul play, and her husband has not committed any crime by withholding information, there’s nothing they can do until they have evidence or probable cause to arrest him,” she wrote. “We also need money for hotels, food, rental cars and gas.”
Chanel Banks Was Found After Being Reported Missing
Law enforcement confirmed to TMZ on November 13, 2024, that Chanel had been found safe more than one week after she was reported missing. She did not have any injuries when she was found, and foul play wasn’t suspected.
