A voluntary recall of Gyros products has been assigned the highest risk level by the FDA, due to potential salmonella contamination.
Newsweek has reached out to the manufacturer, Fresh Creative Foods, via email for comment.
Why It Matters
A Class 1 classification is the FDA's most serious risk classification. It is used in situations where "there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death," according to the FDA's official website.
Salmonella is the most common cause of food poisoning in the U.S. Consuming contaminated food may trigger an infection known as salmonellosis, which can strike from six hours to six days following consumption, according to the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service.
What To Know
The contamination is linked to cucumbers which were in the tzatziki sauce included in the kits.
The recall affects products which were distributed to Sam's Club warehouse in 19 states across the country.
The cucumbers were potentially contaminated with salmonella.
According to the FDA, Fresh Creative Foods is no longer using cucumbers from the supplier.

Consumers who purchased the recalled kits are urged not to consume any part of them.
The FDA advises that consumers throw the product away, and visit any Sam's Club in order to receive a full refund.

In a press release the FDA said: "Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated with Salmonella, and the symptoms usually last four to seven days."
"Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Children younger than five, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections."
