A former healthcare worker has opened up about why she decided to change career paths.

Serenity Cox, 40, worked full-time in the healthcare sector as a nurse before starting work in the adult industry in her mid-30s.

The official Pornhub 2023 'Amateur Model of the Year' is from Toronto, Canada, and boasts upwards of 500 million views for her content, which all began when she and her partner wanted to switch things up in the sheets.

Now a full-time porn star, Cox was recently a guest on the Holly Randall Unfiltered podcast, which allows viewers to 'Get to know your favourite adult stars and what REALLY happens behind the scenes!'.

The star has previously spoken about how it was 'a little bit more challenging' to reveal her new career to her family and more specifically, her parents.

“They didn’t find out from me, they found out through other sources,” she revealed.

Saying that it's 'received a lot better' when she gets to prevent her side of things and an explanation, she also added that it annoys her that people 'blame' her husband for her entering the industry.

“There was a lot of that and I had to challenge a lot of those opinions on what we did,” Cox added.

Host Holly Randall also asked Cox about why she chose to leave the healthcare industry.

She asked: "What made you decide to leave? Was there more opportunity in the field?"

The 40-year-old replied: "Yeah, I held on to them both and I balanced it pretty well for a while, but things were getting more and more successful in the adult industry for me financially.

"I don't like to make it a financial thing but like, I was working this shift work and these 12-hour shifts and saying no to opportunities that would have made me a lot more money," she admitted.

The host reassured her that 'we all know' that nurses aren't the highest earners, as the adult star said there were 'a lot of things' that influenced her decision.

"At the beginning of 2024, there were a lot of opportunities that came forward where I didn't want to feel held back," she explained.

"So I said, you know what, I'm taking a year off from nursing, I'm just going to say yes to things that come my way, see where we can take this career, this lifestyle, and then reassess in 2025."

Cox did say though that she's not 'out of the nursing game for life', adding that there is an intention to return in some capacity, one day.

“I don’t think I will ever go back to full-time shift work again ever in my life, but I will go back to health care in some way,” she noted.
