The NBA trade deadline is only a few short weeks away and teams are starting to gear up for it. We have already seen a few trades go down but there are many more expected to happen as teams position themselves for the postseason.
One team that has been in many rumors of late has been the Miami Heat. Miami has been dealing with trade drama from star Jimmy Butler but the Heat are still looking to compete in the Eastern Conference this season.
In a new trade idea from Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, the Heat swing a deal for forward Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards. Amid all the rumors about Butler, landing Kuzma could be a great way for Miami to improve its roster.
Here is what a deal between the Heat and Wizards could look like
Miami Heat receive: Kyle Kuzma and a 2027 second-round pick (via BRK or DAL)
Washington Wizards receive: Duncan Robinson, Nikola Jović and Josh Richardson
"He could help fill Butler's role for isolation scoring, secondary creation and, when Kuzma is really dialed-in, defensive versatility. He isn't the best quantity-plus-quality shooter from distance, but he is more of a threat from three than Butler. There is absolutely a universe in which the addition of Kuzma and whatever Miami manages to bring back for Butler puts this club in better position to compete right now."
Miami has been one of the teams that has kept tabs on Kuzma and the former NBA champion could thrive with the Heat. Kuzma would go from one of the worst teams in the NBA to a team directly in playoff contention.
The veteran has shown his worth over the years in the NBA, helping the Los Angeles Lakers win a title in 2020. Since then, he has improved his scoring abilities and has also developed more efficiently on the defensive end of the floor.
On the year, Kuzma has averaged 14.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. The veteran has dealt with some injuries, limiting him to just 22 games for the season.
For the Wizards, they would land a nice 3-point shooter in Robinson who could help space the floor. Washington could then flip him down the line for most future assets.
This deal could be a win-win for both sides which can be rare in sports. But it seems that Kuzma could be heading out of Washington sooner rather than later.
