The new service will enable Hirestreet subscribers to rent five items a month for £75, choosing from over 20,000 Asos items.
West said: “The launch marks a step forward for the UK rental market, which has lagged behind the US in recent years when it comes to subscription rental.”
She told Drapers that in the UK, “we have been through a rental-education phase over the last six years”, and “rental is now normalised as a consumption method for special events”.
“There are hundreds of thousands of active UK renters, who are comfortable with rental as a method of consumption," she added.
The Newcastle-based rental platform was one of the first of its kind in the UK when it launched in 2018, focusing on high street brands and not designer names. In Q1 2024, it saw a “significant rise in demand for casual items”, said West. The total items dispatched to customers has increased by 200% year on year, and 40% of items booked were casual pieces, she added.
It is Hirestreet’s second collaboration with Asos following the success of the occasion-wear rental partnership last year.
In 2021, Hirestreet launched a rental service with Marks & Spencer, expanding to a capsule wardrobe rental service in 2022.
