Many telly fans weren’t happy with how ITV had remade an iconic show and longed for the original format with Bruce Forsyth.

TV presenter Holly Willoughby has been keeping a relatively low profile since she left her long term role on This Morning more than a year ago. She made the difficult decision to quit for the sake of her family after it was revealed a man, who has now been convicted, was plotting to kidnap and murder the star.

It also followed the high profile scandal involving her former best friend and co-host Phillip Schofield, who also left the flagship morning show after an affair with a much younger colleague. Since then Holly has largely stayed out of the spotlight, but she did return to her role on Dancing on Ice in January as co-host, this time with Stephen Mulhern who replaced Phil.

She has once again teamed up with the ITV stalwart to front a remake of classic gameshow You Bet! which started in 1988 hosted by the legendary Bruce Forsyth. During the '90s, Matthew Kelly and Darren Day also presented the show, which features ordinary people taking on incredible challenges for a large cash prize.

ITV’s reboot sees Holly and Stephen as co-hosts, accompanied by Alison Hammond, Rob Beckett, Harry Redknapp and Rosie Ramsay who along with the audience gamble on the outcomes of the whacky challenges. The first episode of two aired on Saturday December 7 before the I’m a Celeb semi-final.

However, reaction to the new You Bet! wasn't exactly glowing on social media with many viewers having the same criticism. "Errr was stoked for #YouBet but they ditched the theme tune?!" said one disgruntled fan. "Ruined already. Bad enough it’s Willoughby & Mulhern, but no iconic theme tune!!! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it #YouBet," said another. "Its soul is missing without the #YouBet theme tune," a third agreed, while another said: "Only came for the old theme tune. And they've ditched it. #YouBet." This fan raged: "Already p***** off at #YouBet having a new theme tune."

Others agreed that remaking old classic shows had to be handled carefully. "ITV continue to get revivals wrong," one wrote. "#YouBet had a great concept with a good theme song and they’ve changed that and bringing all the trappings of modern celebrity in it. Too many cuts to the hosts and guests and no focus on the challenge and dramatic music. What a waste."

Another asked: "Why does ITV make an arse of things when they reboot classic game shows?" This viewer echoed: "Wheel of Fortune with Graham Norton was dire, likewise some of Epic Game Shows with Alan Carr, Deal or No Deal with Mulhern padded out to an hour instead of Noel Edmonds’ 45 minutes and now You Bet...."

Someone else shared: "ITV should have looked at what BBC did with Gladiators and how they kept everything the same - that's why it was successful!" And another raged: "Thank God that's over. ITV really should scrap this right now lol. One of the worst shows you will ever see. How to kill a classic. Thought I'd give it a go as I loved the old show but this is simply garbage and scripted. Already a big disappointment. No original titles and theme and Brucie's catchphrase."
