A video of an unusual room feature at a hotel in Thailand has baffled viewers on TikTok.
The clip was shared by @kensdigitaldiaryy and has garnered more than 1.3 million views since it was first shared on October 11. The footage was taken in the Thai island of Koh Samui, according to hashtags shared with the post. A note overlaid on the clip says: "When you book a room in Thailand unaware this would be a part of it."
A voice off-camera says, "This is so trippy," as the footage shows what appears to be some stairs connected to a large rock built into a corner of the bathroom.
A caption shared with the post reads: "When you book the ocean view but they give you the mountain view instead."
"Oh my gosh, what is that?" the voice asks. "It's a rock," another person replies off-camera before the clip ends.
The U.S. hotel occupancy is forecast to reach 63.6 percent in 2024, marking "a significant improvement" over the historic low of 43.8 percent recorded in 2020, the year of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is according to the 2024 State of the Industry report by the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA). The projected figure is just 3.4 percent below the 65.8 percent reported in 2019 before the pandemic.
The AHLA report also found that guests ranked "room cleanliness, property cleanliness, and staff interactions" as the top reasons for why they would leave a positive review for the hotel. Thirty-six percent counted the breakfast, restaurant or bar experience to be among the top reasons for leaving a positive review.
