Luke Bryan might be one of country music's biggest stars, but to Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom's 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, he's simply "Uncle Luke."
Chatting with E! News on Wednesday, November 20 at the 2024 CMA Awards, the 48-year-old "Play It Again" singer revealed that he still keeps close tabs on Perry, 40, and her family, even after her departure from American Idol in May.
"Katy and I text every now and then, and I check on her," Bryan said. "Being on that show with her for seven years, me and her and Orlando, we all developed a great friendship together."
Luke — who shares sons Thomas "Bo", 16, and Tatum "Tate", 14, with his wife and college sweetheart, Caroline Boyer — added, "It's always nice to see how they're doing and see how Daisy's doing. And maybe Daisy will call me Uncle Luke for a long time."
While Perry's exit from American Idol was bittersweet, the dad of two has been welcoming her replacement, Carrie Underwood, with open arms. "The thing about it is Carrie has to kind of learn in real time," he explained to the outlet. "You kind of have to learn how to be a judge. It's not like you can go to American Idol Judging School."
Underwood, 41, who won American Idol in 2005, is already making a big impression on the new season. "She's awesome with the kids," the country hitmaker added. "She has the best soul and heart. She's doing a great job and really settling into the judging table."
Bryan isn't just "Uncle Luke" to Daisy Dove — it seems he's got a knack for being everyone's favorite honorary family member. Country icon Dierks Bentley's kids spent quality time with the Entertainer of the Year winner during a fishing trip in 2022. The 49-year-old "Free and Easy" singer shared a series of photos on Instagram showing Bryan helping Evalyn "Evie," 16, Jordan, 14, and Knox, 11, reel in their catches of the day.
"Good day of fishing with uncle Luke," Bentley, who shares his kids with his wife, Cassidy Black, captioned the photos at the time.
Bryan and Boyer, 44, met in the late '90s and tied the knot in 2006 after dating on and off. In addition to their two sons, they also care for their nephew Til and nieces Jordan and Kris. The couple took them in after Bryan's sister, Kelly Cheshire, passed away in 2007 from undetermined causes, followed by her husband, Ben Cheshire, who died of a heart attack in 2014.
