Penn State cruised into the Fiesta Bowl with a 38-10 win over SMU in Round 1 of the CFP. The Nittany Lions are looking to make a deep playoff run after a season that saw them fall just short in the Big Ten Championship Game against Oregon.

Penn State's two losses this season came against elite competition: Oregon and Ohio State, both playoff teams. Despite those setbacks, the Nittany Lions have shown they can dominate on both sides of the ball, making them a formidable opponent for anyone in the playoff field.

Boise State punched its ticket to the Fiesta Bowl with a dominant 21-7 victory in the Mountain West Championship Game. Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty was the star of the show, racking up 209 rushing yards and a touchdown to cap off a phenomenal season.

The Broncos' only blemish this year came in Week 2 against the juggernaut No. 1 Oregon Ducks, a loss that did little to diminish their stellar campaign. As the Mountain West champs and the only Group of Five teams in the CFP, Boise State has a chip on its shoulder and something to prove against a Power Five giant like Penn State.
