The Longhorns picked up their first win in the playoffs when they took down 12th-seeded Clemson 38-24 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Texas' two losses this season came at the hands of No. 2 Georgia—arguably the best team in the country. The Longhorns fell 30-15 in the regular season and narrowly missed an SEC title with a 22-19 loss in the championship game.
Despite those setbacks, Texas boasts one of the best defenses in the nation, allowing just 13.3 points per game, second only to Ohio State. If the Longhorns can bottle up Arizona State's offense, they'll be tough to beat.
Meanwhile, the Sun Devils earned a first-round bye and a spot in the quarterfinals after winning the Big 12 Championship in their inaugural season in the conference. Their 45-19 dismantling of Iowa State in the title game showcased the team's explosiveness and confidence.
Arizona State is led by standout RB Cam Skattebo, who has been an absolute wrecking ball this season. Skattebo racked up 2,074 yards from scrimmage (1,568 rushing) and found the end zone 22 times. If the Sun Devils want to topple Texas, Skattebo must have a monster game against one of the nation's top defenses.
Prediction: Texas 27, Arizona State 21
This game is going to be a hard-fought battle from start to finish. Texas' defense will be the difference-maker, slowing down Skattebo just enough to give their offense the edge. Expect a low-scoring first half before both teams find their rhythm in the second. Ultimately, the Longhorns' ability to make clutch plays on both sides of the ball will send them to the CFP semifinals.
This Peach Bowl showdown is the perfect way to start your New Year's football festivities! Hook 'Em or Fork 'Em? Either way, it's going to be a blast.
