How 'White Dudes for Harris' Reacted to Donald Trump's Election Win

The lead organizer of campaign group 'White Dudes for Harris,' which backed Vice-President Kamala Harris's presidential bid, has said America faces "a hard four years" following Donald Trump's victory on Tuesday.

Trump has picked up 277 Electoral College votes, seven more than required to win the White House, according to the Associated Press, and is also ahead in the states of Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Alaska, which are still vote counting.

Harris has yet to formally concede the race, though speaking overnight, her campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond told supporters, at what they hoped would be a victory celebration that, "you will hear from her tomorrow."

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, White Dudes for Harris lead organizer Ross Morales Rocketto wrote: "There is no way around it. Waking up to Trump's victory is really hard. Everyone will process this in their own way, so I hope we can have grace for one another."

He added: "At White Dudes for Harris we started something beautiful, but we always knew the work wasn't going to end with this election."

Rocketto continued: "This is going to be a hard four years. Maybe the hardest any of us have experienced. People are going to be hurt by Trump. People will put their lives on the line to stop him.

He added: "And yet, I still believe that we can make this place we all dream it can be. I love and appreciate each of you who've been in the work over the years, and I will see you on the front lines for the next four. Onward."

Newsweek contacted the Donald Trump and Kamala Harris presidential election campaigns for comment via email.

White Dudes for Harris was launched in July with a mass Zoom call, which was addressed by a slew of prominent figures including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, later selected as Harris's running mate, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill.

The group said: "It's time for white men to get 100 percent engaged and make sure Kamala Harris is elected as our next President." It later claimed to have raised over $4 million from around 190,000 people following the Zoom call.

White Dudes for Harris was launched in a bid to appeal to white and male voters. This demographic hasn't typically had its own campaign group in presidential elections. Had she won Harris would have been the first female and second non-white president in U.S. history.

According to exit polling published by The Washington Post, Trump won the election with the support of 59 percent of white men, against 39 percent for Harris. The Republican nominee also narrowly scored ahead with white women, who backed him by 52 percent to 47 percent.

Notably, Trump was also supported by 53 percent of Hispanic/Latino men, versus only 37 percent of Hispanic Latino women. Both Black men and women overwhelmingly backed Harris by 78 percent and 92 percent respectively.

Preliminary results of an exit poll conducted on November 5 by Edison Research, and published by Reuters, indicated the proportion of white voters casting ballots had increased since 2020 whilst the figures for Black and Hispanic American's had fallen.

A survey conducted by AtlasIntel over October 30-31 found Trump had the support of 40.4 percent of Hispanic likely voters, well up from what he received in 2020, though still behind Harris who was backed by 57.4 percent.
