The public PDA comes amid divorce drama on both sides involving the timeline of their romance. The new couple starred in Broadway's The Music Man together from December 2021 to January 2023 and received critical success for their on-stage chemistry. They also gushed about each other in interviews. Both were married at the time, but that didn't stop rumors from circulating about the nature of their relationship. Eight months after the show finished its run, Jackman announced his separation from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness.

A year later, Sutton filed for divorce from her husband, screenwriter Ted Griffin. That same month, Furness liked an Instagram post in October from a gossip blogger who claimed that her husband was "running off with the mistress."

Sutton has been married twice and has a daughter, Emily, 7, with Griffin. Jackman's marriage to Furness was one of the longest-running in Hollywood, and the pair have two children: Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.

"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," Jackman and Furness said in their joint separation statement. "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives. This is the sole statement either of us will make."
