An owner who feared that her mischievous pup would chew everything when left alone was left amazed by what she saw while checking the pet camera.
Since bringing home Juniper last year, owner Olyvia, 24, has become accustomed to finding teeth marks in just about anything. The Labrador mix loves socks, and she's also quite partial to a nibble on the coffee table.
At first, Olyvia and her partner had to crate Juniper when she was home alone because they didn't know what sort of destruction she would cause. Indeed, Olyvia told Newsweek that her pup "loves to get into trouble" when her owners are around, so just imagine what she'd do when she's unaccompanied.
"Junie is pretty hyper and always wants to play or be occupied by something," Olyvia, from Michigan, said. "But she is very entertaining and always makes us laugh."
The couple started leaving Juniper out of her crate when they briefly left the house, and to their surprise, everything was still as it should be when they returned. Olyvia said she was "very curious" about what her dog got up to, so she bought a pet camera to investigate further.
Needless to say, the next time Juniper was alone, Olyvia was left speechless by what she saw on the pet cam. Her usually mischievous dog was simply perched by the window, waiting patiently for her humans to return home.
Olyvia continued: "When we first set it up and I saw her patiently waiting for us, I felt relieved—but also a little gaslighted that she was being so good. We didn't understand why she gets into mischief when we're home, but she is a perfect angel when we are gone.
"She is a very good girl when she's by herself and she doesn't chew anything. There may be something on the coffee table that's on the floor when we get home, but it's never chewed. Before we leave, we make sure to Junie proof it by closing all our doors and push anything on the counters out of reach," she told Newsweek.
After finally learning what her dog gets up to when she's alone, Olyvia couldn't resist sharing it on social media (@olyvialaz on TikTok). She shared a clip showing Juniper chewing a sock, with the caption explaining that Olyvia thought "she would chew up the house." However, that was followed by several pictures from the pet cam showing how calm she is by herself.
The post has delighted internet users, going viral with more than 8.9 million views and 2.3 million likes on TikTok in a matter of days.
Olyvia told Newsweek that she's been "blown away" by the attention, and loves seeing Juniper gain so many new fans.
She said: "Everyone loves animal videos so that's not surprising, but who doesn't love cute dogs? It just took off and we kept telling Junie that she's famous now, and we are giving her many treats of course."
There's been plenty of praise for Juniper online, leading to more than 9,000 comments on the TikTok post at the time of writing.
One comment reads: "Don't you ever leave that baby again."
Another TikTok user wrote: "omg she's just waiting for you."
Another person added: "A dog's entire life is waiting for you to come home. We don't deserve them."
