I'm A Celebrity campmate Danny Jones has spoken about being estranged from his father

Campmate Danny Jones opened up recently about being estranged from his own father Alan Jones, having spoken about his family whilst in the jungle on I'm A Celebrity.

McFly member Danny, 38, shared in one episode of the ITV show that he is no longer in contact with Alan, 72. Their relationship is said to have become strained when Danny's parents parted aways in 2005 amid the band's rise to fame.

Whilst in camp, Danny has grown close to retired boxer Barry McGuigan, 63. Speaking about Barry, he said: "It's just nice having someone older than you that does replace that kind of fatherly figure. Just to put his arm around you and have your back. I've not had that feeling for a while."

Opening up about his relationship with his own father, Danny said: "He doesn't speak to me. I just don't think I've really ... healed with it, maybe." He shared: "I had a good relationship with my dad. He was my best mate until he left."

The musician and his father are said to have been estranged for almost two decades after Alan left the family. Danny has remained close to his mother Kathy Jones and told the Sun in 2018: "I didn't like seeing my mum in so much pain. There was too much negativity, so I just had to cut him out."

Danny has also previously revealed that he sought therapy for anxiety following his parents' divorce. He shared his thoughts whilst a guest on the White Wine Question Time podcast. He said on the podcast: "I had a massive bout of anxiety when I was 19 when my dad left. [...] I feel sorry for any kid out there whose mum and dad have split up."

He added: "It's their responsibility ... they chose to have the kids, so they've got to be adult about it and stay in touch. It's hard for a kids because you crave that and you miss it, but I feel like I've become way more of a man than I'd ever be before because I've learned a lot from it. I've achieved so much and it's made me hungrier and not scared of stuff."

Alan, who now lives in Spain, spoke to the Daily Mail last month about his relationship with Danny. He told the outlet in an interview that he has yet to meet his grandson Cooper, six, but hopes that "one day it will happen".

Speaking about his son Danny, Alan said: "I feel as though he's painted himself into a corner and he doesn't know how to get out. I think because he loves his mum so much he's protected her, and I think any reunion with me, and this is only my opinion, would upset his mum, and I don't think he wants to do that, and I understand that."
