Former boxing champion Barry McGuigan has been confirmed for this year’s lineup on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The Irish sports legend joins a star-studded cast, including former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse, Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall, Loose Women'ss Jane Moore, Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough, singer Tulisa Contostavlos, TV presenter Melvin Odoom, TV personality Coleen Rooney, podcaster GK Barry, and McFly’s Danny Jones.
Contrary to speculation, Love Island alum Maura Higgins will not be participating, reports the Mirror.
McGuigan, no stranger to tough challenges, is excited by both the physical and psychological tests the show will offer. “I’m 63 now,” he said, "and I’d like to think I’m a young 63. But I’d rather take this on now than when I’m 73.”
He’s prepared for the arduous experience, especially the mental challenges. “I’m not saying I’m going to win, but I’d like to stay long enough to get to know everyone in camp.”
Reflecting on his role in camp, Barry imagines he may become a referee-like figure. “I was the peacemaker on Hell’s Kitchen, but this is different. I think I might be one of the elders, calming things down. Though I don’t know—I might get irritated!” He shared his usual approach as a mentor, saying, “I’m the consoler when people have a rough day. I tell them, ‘Tomorrow will be different.’”
Despite the physical and mental trials, Barry insists he won’t refuse any challenge. “Once you sign up for I’m A Celebrity, you have to do everything. Fighters go through hell in training, physically and psychologically, so I know what I’m in for.” He laughed, “It might be funny watching me hesitate, but I’m not going to refuse.”
While he admitted he’s no cook—“My wonderful wife does that!”—Barry is happy to help where he can, adding, “I’m good at cleaning. I want us to create a team in the jungle, with everyone doing their part.”

Though Barry has no specific phobias, he is concerned about the food shortage: “The biggest challenge might be the lack of sweets and learning to cope without proper meals.” He calls it a “class in absence,” determined to handle the deprivation.
His sons are rooting for him and offered some light-hearted advice: “They told me, ‘You’ve got discipline, you’re good with people, but don’t pick your ears, don’t swear, and stay calm.’”
Known as The Clones Cyclone for his relentless style, Barry looks forward to potentially participating in the show’s iconic Celebrity Cyclone challenge. “I should be able to embrace it! The name has always suited me. Let’s hope it helps me out here.”
