Melanie Grant, famed for her role on the iconic ITV gameshow Fun House, now works in Wetherspoons after leaving her TV career behind.
Nineties kids will remember the quiz show fondly, where general knowledge questions were often overshadowed by wild go kart races and torrents of gunge.
Now, those same children, old enough to frequent pubs, might be surprised to see one of the show's stars serving drinks. Melanie, one of the twin blonde cheerleaders who assisted host Pat Sharp on Fun House, is now employed at a Wetherspoons bar.
At 51, Melanie says many patrons recognise her from her time on the popular 90s children's TV show. Her manager at the Royal Victoria Pavilion pub – the largest Spoons in Ramsgate, Kent – was a fan of the programme and was utterly starstruck when he received her CV.
Melanie shared: "I love working at the pub. It's perfect for me as I grew up around here and I'm a real people person and always love a chat with the customers here.
"A lot of customers know me and recognise me from the show, and we have a lot of laughs and memories about it."
Before Wetherspoons took over the pub in 2017, it was a nightclub known as Peggy Sue's and then Nero's. Melanie, a local girl, has fond memories of both clubs.
She added: "I used to come here in those days, so I have a great connection with the building."
Pub boss Chris Whitbourn expressed his delight, saying: "To have Mel here is superb. I used to watch Fun House as a kid and then found myself interviewing her for a job here. She is a great staff member and an asset to the pub."
Melanie became a household name on the popular ITV show with her sister Martina at the tender age of 16. The game show featured children taking on various obstacles in the soft play house, with the iconic Pat Sharpe hosting.
This nostalgic favourite delighted viewers from 1989 to 1999.
