After trying out the Bob and Brad electric heated back massager, I no longer need an expensive spa massage to help ease stiff muscles and a sore back – and you can shop it for £70

The Bob and Brad heated electric back massager has been a game changer for sore muscles

After struggling with back pain and spinal problems my whole life, I’ve become quite adept at finding things that help ease tension and pain. My two main go-tos? Regular chiropractors appointments to relaxing (and pricey) massages at a spa.

However, my bank balance is less impressed with my love of a costly spa day, which is why I decided to try out a much more budget-friendly option thanks to the Bob and Brad Back Massager with Heat . Available at Amazon for £69.99, the one of purchase costs slightly less than a single massage appointment, and I can use it as often as I like whenever I feel like I need it.

I was initially a little sceptical that this would give me anywhere near the same relaxing sensation that comes from a true massage, however I was pleasantly surprised by how effective the Bob and Brad Back Massager is. It’s so easy to set up, you literally just plug it in and click through the settings and off you go, and it can be placed anywhere on your back to target the spots that really need it.

Unlike others I’ve tried before which feel a bit flimsy, or the massage movement isn’t very targeted, this Bob and Brad Back Massager has four individual balls which rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise, and they do apply quite an impressive amount of pressure. They’re well distributed, so it doesn’t feel too intense in one spot, and they have a good range of movement.

The shape of the massager itself has a great ergonomic design, too, which fits around your spine’s natural curve and covers quite a large surface area on your back. One of my favourite additions to the Bob and Brad Back Massager though, is the heat option.

There’s four settings to pick from; clockwise with heat, anti-clockwise with heat, or either direction without heat. The heated options give a warming effect that’s not only very welcome during the chilly winter, but also helps add an extra element of relaxation and comfort to the experience, just like when your spa treatment comes with a heated table or hot stones.

As it requires plugging in, rather than being rechargeable, you are slightly more limited on where you can use the Bob and Brad Back Massager. You need a firm surface to place it against and the power cord measures around six feet, so you need to make sure you’ve got it plugged into a location that works. However it was nice knowing it wouldn’t die mid-use, and it automatically shuts off after 15 minutes so you don’t need to worry about it overheating.

If you do want something more portable, or if you find most of your tension is in your neck and shoulder, Boots’ Wellbeing Heated Back And Neck Massager drapes over your shoulders and lies down your back for a less bulky option. It’s also heated, however it has more of a vibration motion than a true massage movement.

However, in my opinion the Bob and Brad Back Massager is more than worth the money, and it’s become a staple in my evening routine to help unwind, as well as loosening off my sore and tight muscles caused by back problems or exercise.
