Two Brazilian influencers are dead after reportedly refusing to wear life jackets while out on a boat… so they could snap selfies and tan.
Last month, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, partied on a yacht along the beautiful Brazil coast. When their festivities wrapped up, they hopped on a separate boat to travel back to shore… But things turned fatal FAST. The captain of that boat later told authorities that he was instructed to transport six influencers, including Aline and Beatriz, despite having a maximum occupancy of five.

That’s already a recipe for disaster, but it becomes even worse when you learn that multiple passengers REFUSED to wear life jackets because they wanted to prioritize their tans and photo ops. Serious?! Sao Vincente Police Commissioner Marcos Alexandra Alfino revealed this week:
“Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies. They said that they get in the way of their tanning.”
That is NOT SMART! Safety ALWAYS comes first!!
According to local police, it became difficult for the overcrowded boat to navigate through rough waters, and multiple passengers ended up getting thrown into the water. Then, even worse, the boat ultimately capsized after a massive wave crashed on deck. How terrifying!
The captain told police that he tried to rescue all the stranded passengers, but that Aline and Beatriz — two of the individuals who opted to not wear life jackets — unfortunately drowned. Beatriz’s body was later found by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters after it drifted into the ocean, while Aline’s body wasn’t discovered for a whole week until it washed up on the shore of Itaquitanduva Beach. Apparently, she’d posted pics from the yacht party just before things got deadly.
Police Commissioner Alfino added:
“All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.”
So awful.
The surviving passengers include Camila Alves de Carvalho, Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva, and Vanessa Audrey da Silva — the latter of which told local outlets that she survived after rushing to put on a life jacket amid the boating disaster. She then held onto a rock after being thrust into the water. She explained:
“There was a moment in the water when no one could see anyone. I was fighting for my life.”
How terrifying.
Our hearts are with Aline and Beatriz’s loved ones, and we hope this serves as a reminder to always prioritize your safety.
