Injured Yorkshire Terrier Refuses to Stay Home, Owner Gets Creative

3 hours ago 7

A Yorkshire Terrier from the U.K. was desperate to go walkies with his owners, despite an injury. So they came up with a solution to take him along.

In a viral post shared on TikTok in November under the username @debsbuckers, the poster can be seen walking his small dogs at the park, keeping the little Yorkie around in a baby carrier, like a child.

"Just a Yorkie with an injured ACL being taken on his daily walk because he cries if we leave him at home," says the caption.

Just like we have anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, dogs' knee bones also have similar fibrous tissues located within each joint, known as cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments.

When these ligaments rupture they can cause symptoms ranging from having a hint of lameness to being unable to bear weight on the injured leg. Some dogs may also have swelling on the inside of the knee.

The most common ways for a dog to damage a cruciate ligament are by jumping, skidding, twisting or turning awkwardly.

Some breeds, including Labrador retrievers, Newfoundlands, German shepherds, Rottweilers, and golden retrievers, are more prone to ligament injuries than others. Obese dogs are also more at risk.

Symptoms that your pup has ruptured their ligament can be more or less intense, and they can appear quite suddenly. These include limping, stiffness getting up and down, back leg pain, swelling in one or both knees, and walking in an unusual way.

As previously explained by VCA Animal Hospitals, all dogs that sustain a cruciate ligament injury will eventually develop osteoarthritis, though having surgery can slow its progression.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 180,000 views and 10,400 likes on the platform.

One user, Natalie, commented: "I thought it was the one on the floor!! Was like what a trooper still trotting along!!!! [To be honest] I wish I could also be carried around everywhere."

Melissa Jane said: "Once ours worked out she could get on the bottom of the babies pram it was game over she'd walk to the field but wanted a ride back."

Phoebeleigh17 wrote: "I didn't see him at first Nobody gets left behind."

LifewithLolly added: "I am howling! Oh god he looks quite happy!"

Newsweek reached out to @debsbuckers for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
