Instagram is yet again bringing a new feature that will use AI to generate profile pictures for the users. A leak related to the same suggested that Instagram is testing a new feature that will let the users take leverage of AI models to create their profile pictures with the help of AI. As of now, the information related to the upcoming Instagram feature is pretty limited. That’s not it, it has also been revealed that the feature will also be introduced for WhatsApp and Facebook.
Instagram’s new AI feature details
A popular developer named Alessandro Paluzzi witnessed the same feature on the Instagram application. He found a new menu option while updating his profile picture on Instagram as ‘Create an AI profile picture.’ He has also shared a screenshot of the same on Instagram as well.
As of now, it is not confirmed how the feature is going to work on the stable version of the application. High chances are that the feature will be most probably powered by Meta Llama large language models (LLMs). The feature may work in either of two ways – it might generate an AI image from scratch with text-based prompts like we do with Meta AI or the existing profile picture will be changed to different styles using AI.

This is not happening for the first time that Instagram is bringing an AI-based feature. Previously, we have seen the integration of Meta AI and AI Rewrite on the application. Apart from the AI feature to create profile pictures, Meta has also announced that they are working on a facial recognition technology based on AI to detect scam ads running on Instagram and Facebook.
