Apple has released iOS 18.2 public beta 2 for users today. The latest update includes all of the new Apple Intelligence capabilities of iOS 18.2 plus a handful of changes and performance improvements. Here’s everything new.

Installing the latest iOS 18.2 public beta

iOS 18.2 will ship publicly in December, but until then, users can get a sneak peek at the new features coming by joining the public beta.

You can enroll at beta.apple.com, then download and install the new software update on your iPhone.

If you were already part of Apple’s beta software program, you’ll find public beta 2 ready to install inside Settings ⇾ General ⇾ Software Update.

Today’s new beta contains a lot of bug fixes and performance improvements for a smoother user experience. But there are a handful of feature changes worth noting too.

Here’s what’s new:

  • videos in the Photos app now play in fullscreen without needing to tap the screen first to zoom in and out
  • Camera Control can now open the Camera app even if your iPhone 16’s screen is off
  • new icons were added for the forthcoming next-gen CarPlay
  • the AirPlay icon has been redesigned slightly
  • the ChatGPT icon in writing tools has lost its AI glow

It’s a short list, but that’s perhaps unsurprising since iOS 18.2’s public launch is fast approaching.

The closer we get to December, the more Apple will be prioritizing bug fixes rather than making feature changes. That’s to ensure a public launch build that’s as stable as possible.
